First WordPress Website: 5 Crucial Steps & Plugins for Success

These are the five crucial steps that you need to take after setting up your first WordPress website if you want to be successful.  Not only do these steps need to be taken, but they need to be taken early in order to build up a strong foundation from the start. I won’t make it a surprise as to what I’m going to tell you because the first two are very basic if you have any experience using WordPress, but the next three are not so common. So here they are, listed, and I will explain them further below.

Google Analytics
Yoast SEO & Google Search Console
Facebook Ads
Adwords Ads
IFTTT – Hootsuite or Buffer

1. Google Analytics

Google Analytics is one of the most important things to do when you set up your first WordPress website and luckily it is free and very simple to do with the Google Analytics WordPress plugin. Google Analytics allows you to view the traffic that is coming to your website and see where it is coming from.

2. Yoast SEO & Google Search Console

Yoast SEO is one of the most powerful SEO plugins for WordPress and SEO is one of the most important steps to take when first setting up your first WordPress website. On-page SEO is crucial to driving organic traffic to your website and it is important that it be done early so that you don’t have to go back and do it to every page after you already have 100 pages. The plugin is very user-friendly and has a simple onboarding interface for first-time users.

3. Facebook Ads

If you plan on running Facebook ads, or even if you don’t plan on running Facebook ads now but think you may in the future, it is important that you get the Facebook pixel installed on your website. Once the Facebook pixel is installed on your website it can start tracking all visitors who come to your website and from there you can create a ‘lookalike’ audience and advertise to them on Facebook. You can also track users who visit a specific page or users who begin a checkout but never finish it. The Facebook Pixel plugin does a good job of installing it for you.

4. Adwords Ads

Similar to the Facebook pixel, it is important that you get the Google Adwords remarking code setup on your website early so that you can re-market, on Google, to all users who visit your website.

5. IFTTT with Hootsuite or Buffer

IFTTT is an important tool that helps you synchronize all of your social media accounts so that a post to Instagram is also posted to Twitter, Facebook, and Tumblr. Read more about social media automation with IFTTT.
